You Can Be In a Weight Loss Study in Your Area

Have you ever wondered where Universities and Drug Companies find people to participate in their weight loss clinical trials? I’ve never known anyone who was involved in any type of study. I think it would be interesting to try one.

I’m wondering if being a part of a weight loss clinical study would be more likely to keep a person motivated to reach their goal and maintain their weight loss. I wonder what the success rate is for completion of various weight loss trials. The more I think, the more questions I raise.

I was researching clinical studies and came across the University of Kentucky’s website. They have done/do all types of research. They recently completed a 44 week weight loss study where the average weight lost was 134 pounds. WOW!!!!!

The University of Kentucky is located in Lexington. They have various studies available in which you can participate if you meet the criteria. The study on diet programs is You can also put your name on a list for upcoming studies.  You can check out the U of Kentucky program here.

There is another site in which offers various clinical trials. They cover a multitude of conditions as well as weight loss. All you have to do is type in what type of research you are interested as well as which area and it will research clinical studies available in that field for that area. The site is called Clinical Trails.gov.

I found another site, National Cancer Institute. At this site you can find a clinical trial in which to participate. You can also read the results of studies done on various types of cancer.

Last but not least is another site in which you can apply to be a participant in various clinical studies. This site is called Center Watch. This site covers a multitude of studies as well as their geographic region.

I’m debating on whether to become a participant in one of these studies. Sitting here thinking, perhaps if I find a study that involves weight loss as well as high blood pressure, I might just see if I meet the requirements of a study planned for an area I’m near.

I am in serious need of help here and I know it. I am 33 years old, 5 feet 11 inches ,and tip the scales at 420 pounds. I am willing to be a test subject or a lab rat, which ever comes first, I am despirate because it’s not getting better it’s getting progressively worst and I feel this panic on the inside that I just can’t quiet. It’s like one day I went to bed and woke up giant sized, seems as if I have been living the last ten years in a fog not being able to see anything but my hand in front of me and it’s steadily shoveling food into my mouth ! Everytime I make an effort to cut back on eating and structure my diet habits better, something tragic happens and I am right back at square one with the hand to face action. The only difference is that now I have two miricle babies the doctors said I would never have and a hubby to whom I owe the world because I have put him so much. My unhappyness and unheathyness is leading to theirs and I don’t want to subject my babies to lead a life of despair as I have, I want them to love life and live it to the fullest and that includes not making themselves prisoners in their own bodies. Thank you for your time.

I’m a 24 year old, engaged, mother of one; and I’m terrified that I won’t make it to my wedding date on 11/7/2009. I can’t live this way anymore. My weight is killing me, and my fiance, he is also dealing with weight issues and he is killing himself slowly. I’m 5′11″ and 320 lbs. I used to be full of life. I used to be able to play with my son, and do all the things that a young mother should be able to do. I can’t. I try to diet. I used to be very athletic. I work out, but I swear, nothing works. I seriously think that I need surgery. It’s like I don’t trust myself anymore. We both need help, but he wont ask for it. I dont want to leave my son alone on this earth, because I couldn’t get healthy. I lost my mother this year. I dont want my son to lose his. I’m willing to do anything it takes.

    Michelle,

Check out the site and see if there are any clinical treatments available in your area. Also check to see if your local hospital has any nutrition classes or provide a one-on-one with the nutritionist from the hospital.

You sound so down I wish I could just give you a hug. (I have kids your age) The good thing is, you are aware you need to make changes.

Start keeping a journal of the things you eat, amount, time, and how you are feeling when you eat. Also keep track of your exercise.

Look at it this way, you are maintaining your weight. Now you have decided to lose some. It’s just as hard for the person that has to lose 100 pounds as it is the a person that has to lose 20 pounds. One to two pounds a week is ideal. Just remember there is water weight which can trick you into thinking you have gained or stayed the same. Muscle weighs more than fat so when you start toning up you make appear to be staying the same on the scale.

Since it’s all about calories in and out, read your journal, make changes to your food choices and cut down your portions and take a long walk everyday if you can. You will see positive results…..I promise. Please stop back and let me know how you are doing. I’ve got you and your financee in my prayers.

Hi! My name is Christie and I am really looking to find a solution to my binge eating problems.I am going through a divorce and have always had deep emotional issues, but I never leaned on food to cope. Now all I think about is my next meal.I can eat 5 B&J sandwiches, 2 ramen noodle soups,a whole JAR of peanut butter, and whatever else I can get my hands on in a single binge session.I am only 21 I weigh 135 and 5′7 which is normal but I have already gained 15 lbs and growing!!I am having poor body image and am disgusted with my behavior.I can’t stop it…its out of control.I tell myself no but the urge is so strong I give in.sometimes I reason with myself and only eat 1 sandwich …then 2 then 3 .PLEASE someone tell me what I can do!!!!!

  12. Chris Says:

    christie,

You understand what your underlying problems are that lead you to your binge eating. I suggest you call your local mental health agency. They will be able to direct you to someone that can help you. I will keep you in my prayers. Divorce is never easy…even when you are the one that is forced to initiate the process.
