New Weight Loss Drink Mix… Recipe: Lose Weight Drinking Milk Shakes

Two days ago, after my husband and I finished cutting a customer’s lawn, I got a craving for a milkshake.  It’s been so many years since I’ve had one.  I couldn’t even think of a place in town that made them.

I went to this icee place and had to settle for a root beer ice cone.  I didn’t care for it.  It tasted wayyy too sweet.  Since I don’t care much for sugar, I wasn’t able to eat it.

When I got home, I still was thirsty for a milkshake.  Low and behold I had some Blue Bunny strawberry frozen yogurt in the freezer.  I used that large glass in the picture and filled it with ice cream and 2% milk.  Wow,  was that ever good.  In fact, I made myself one of these strawberry shakes two days in a row.

I was feeling guilty about all the calories. I was kicking myself for indulging in such a manner.  I decided today to take a look at the calories and sugar I consumed. Ahhh….not as bad as I thought.  There are 90 calories in half a cup (I used a cup) and there are 120 calories in 8 ounces of 2% milk (I used 2 cups).

The shake really filled me up and on both days it ended up actually being my lunch.  I’m not feeling so bad now.  I’m glad to see my indulgence wasn’t as bad as I had orginally thought.  This actually could be considered a weight loss drink.  It  filled me up so I didn’t need any lunch.  It kept me full and I didn’t do any snacking before supper.

This is my newest weight loss recipe.  It’s funny how I can go from feeling so guilty for indulging to realizing this milkshake is going to help me lose weight.  Wow…what a win-win recipe.

Milkshake Pros:             Milkshake Cons:

1.  Filled me up            1.  Over 16 grams of sugar

2.  Only 330 Calories       2.  No Fiber

3.  Zero fat               3.  More calories than I usually drink at one time

You should check out the Blue Bunny website.  They have information a nutrional guide, recipes, and even a $1.00 off coupon for their ice cream.

It’s time for me to get my grass cutting shoes on….where off to make another customer happy.

Isn’t it funny how you sometimes get those very intense cravings? I find it’s better to give into them a little rather than let them consume your every waking thought. I love when you think that you are doing something really bad, that is costing you a lot of calories, and then look into it and discover it’s way better than you think!!! (Much less fun the other way around!) If they fill you up and are only 330 calories, I would count them as a pro.

It is good to reward yourself once in a while. So long as you have a conscious intention to keep it within a safe limit here is no harm. In fact, it keep you charge up to go back to the routine weight loss planning.

Most importantly, keep your plan going in long term. Nice Post.

It’s kind of funny how after a while you become some worried about health that you are afraid to eat a treat every once in a while. Like Kathleen said, its always a good thing to give in to a cheat craving. It will end up keeping you on track in the long run!

Great to see you actually check out the calories, otherwise you find you have sleepless nights worrying about it. It’s good to throw in something different every now and again, just to keep your body guessing.

Eating the same old foods day in and day out is not good. Keep it up and don’t feel guilty about giving yourself a treat every once in awhile.

I’m tough on myself too in regards to treats! What is it that makes starwberry ice cream so magically delicious?!

I think it’s a great idea to use a home-made milkshake as substitute for lunch. That’s just the “crux” – most of us would have the milkshake as accompaniment to another meal, and THAT’s what is so bad and makes you put on weight. If we just take the shake and use it as meal replacement, then we can actually use ice cream and maybe even full fat milk (yes, I think we can!) and still come out tops. Long live the milkshakes!

looks like a great shake there. I particularly am a fan of weight loss shakes, and that’s especially if they taste good. Hopefully this one is very filling. I oftentimes think that reason people have such a problem losing weight is because they have a difficult time finding satisfying foods to eat. Maybe this shake could be the answer.

I loved the story of the new waistline friendly milkshake. My own personalized low cal milkshake recipe is the following: mix skim milk with frozen strawberries and one tablespoon of lemon juice. In the mixer you add ice cubes until you get the consistency you desire. If you want to make it a little sweeter you can also add honey. Tasty and super low cal milkshake.

You are right, you can loose a lot of fat when using shakes and the correct protein amounts for your size. I lost 38 lbs doing the shake meal replacement and I’m working on my six pack now it’s awesome. Keep on with your good work

Hey! great idea! One question though. How was it only 330 cals? I thought it would be 420 with 1 cup of ice cream (180 cals) and 2 cups of milk (240 cals).

Please let me know if I’m wrong because I’d love to have the same drink for 330 cals because what I’m sipping on now isn’t. Thanks!!

I tried this and da*m its good. Gotta buy the low fat or no fat ice cream unfortunately haha. But I make these all the time, and they are great. Cool blog by the way, not often you see people sticking to their goals and posting about it online. Props to you man, I think you are doing great.
