The Flavor Point Diet
There is yet another diet out there……….called The Flavor Point Diet. Just when you think there can’t possibly be another one out there, another one pops up. According to the Medical News Today, a major cause of overeating is eating too many flavors at once. (When I read that, reminded me of those kamakazie drinks we use to make as kids, everything but the kitchen sink in them and of course mom yelling…what are you kids doing!!!! ahhhh…what memories)Ooppss side-tracked again….back to the article.
“We stay hungry longer the more diverse the flavors of a meal or snack,” said Dr David Katz, a professor at Yale school of medicine. “If flavors are thoughtfully distributed, we fill up on fewer calories. This explains why, for instance, people can eat a holiday meal to the point of feeling unpleasantly full, yet still have room for dessert. No, that’s not because you have a ‘hollow leg’. It’s because of sensory specific satiety; the hypothalmus is hard-wired to respond to flavors.”
Katz says his book has three goals: to empower people to purse their weight loss goals immediately and responsibly; to play a significant role in the way America thinks about the very concept of dieting, and to change the food supply.
The Flavor Point Diet has three phases, each of which makes use of flavor themes, more obvious in the beginning, subtle by the end.
I’d be interested in hearing from anyone that tries this one.

CHRIS,
I JUST PURCHASED THE BOOK AND AM ANXIOUS TO TRY IT. THE THING AT THIS POINT THAT IS REALLY HOLDING ME BACK IS THE MENUS; EACH DAY REQUIRES A HUGE LIST OF INGREDIENTS THAT I DONT NORMALLY STOCK IN MY KITCHEN, FROM HERBS TO DIFFERENT KINDS OF DRIED FRUIT. THE INVESTMENT FOR STARTING IS A LARGE EXPENSIVE GROCERY LIST. I JUST GOT TO DAY 5 OF THE PLAN FOR MAKING MY LIST OUT AND HAVE A FULL NOTEBOOK PAGE WITH 2 COLUMNS OF STUFF I NEED TO HAVE BEFORE I EVEN START THE PLAN AND I DONT EVEN HAVE A WEEKS WORTH OF GROCERIES WROTE DOWN. I DO BELIEVE THAT ONCE YOU MAKE THE INITIAL INVESTMENT IN CHANGING YOUR COOKING STYLE AND ARE USED TO THESE STAPLES BEING IN YOUR KITCHEN IT WOULD BE EASIER TO SHOP AND EAT.
THE MENU FOR ONE DAY GIVES YOU SOO MANY OPTIONS FOR CONVENIENCE WETHER YOU WORK OUT ALL DAY AT THE OFFICE OR ARE HOME FOR THE DAY. I’LL COMMENT AGAIN ONCE I START.

Wow…two columns?….I can’t wait to hear how this goes for you. I’m always open to new ideas. I think having lots of options is key to success.

I have tried the flavor point diet and think its great. While it does take some new ingredients to be added to your pantry, it is a lot easier than I initially thought. No measuring, no “plate sizes”, no weighing. Diners are mostly simple and quick to prepare. If you pack a lunch - do it the night before because they do take a little planning. The way it is layed out, you can skip any “theme” you really don’t like. The nice thing about this book is that you will be eating healthy, tasty, food even if you follow the plan forwards, backwards or sideways. The healthy recipes alone make it worth getting this book even if you are not trying to lose weight. I recommend it highly.

Thanks David. I like the idea of no measuring. I like simple and easy too. I find the older I get, the more shortcuts I use. Hmmm Perhaps that is why I’ve gained weight…I’ve got too good at it.
