Losing Weight And Tracking My Progress
We’ve been so busy with this lawn service the past two weeks. We had a three lawns that were really tough. Two of the jobs were on foreclosed homes. The grass was so tall it was like hay. Of course, there was all kinds of garbage in the yards we had to clean up first. The third property we had to cut and clean up was for an individual who has been placed in a nursing home. The lawn mower threw a piece of metal wire into the front of my leg cutting that yard. Yikes…that hurt. What a way to end a grass cutting season.
I’ve lost another 4 pounds in the past two weeks. I’m going to have to start using my treadmill since the lawn mowing season is done for this year. I have to force myself to get on that thing. I wish I could walk where I live but it’s impossible. I tried it once and was chased by two dogs. We live in the country and people are not required to have their dogs enclosed in their yards. Everyone but us allows their dogs to run loose. I was a city mail carrier for many years and got bit a few times so I’m scared to death of dogs. Then definetly sensed it when I tried to walk where they lived.
There are three reasons I am having success losing weight. 1. Daily physical activity
2. Eating Healthy
3. Using a journal (track my food + activity)
It’s easy to see what is working for me when I can read it in black and white. There are many types of food and activity journals available free online. At Bella Online (The Voice of Women), the site lists a dozen free online food diaries and diary templates. Each one describes what is available with their journal. Bella Online also has good advice on Healthy Eating. It’s an informative site.

I know the journal is important but darn it that is a lot of work! Whine, whine, whine. It’s great you can get exercise on the job. I sit at a desk.

well done, I keep a diary also and find it really helps with my weight loss, I can instantly see if I am being naughty and then rather than forget which is usually what I do I remember because I can read it back.

Way to go on your weight loss. Just came across your blog today and had to reply about mowing the lawn. It’s one of my favorite things to do now that I started a new healthy lifestyle. I imagine having a lawn service has you burning tons of calories.
We can’t really walk around our neighborhood either because people just let their dogs roam and it makes me very nervous because one time this very BIG dog was loose and backed my dog and myself into our garage, so scary.
I also track my food and activity and it has helped me a lot.
Nice to ‘meet’ you!

Keeping track of your own diet progress is very important since you will know how well yourself is doing when you look back. If the plan doesn’t work, you may try another one and not wasting any time. Always have a plan when doing anything not only for diet and weight loss. It will help you success more easily!

Hello, Really like the website. While I don’t cut grass as a business, I think when I cut my own grass I get a great workout.

Actually, I think cutting grass and yardwork is about the only exercise I get anymore. And my sessions are too few and far between to help. :-/

Thank you for this - it will definitely help me to lose weight. For me it’s all about tracking what I eat and what I burn very diligently and a spreadsheet is a great way to do that. If I don’t do that it’s easy to back slide and have that cheese cake.

Hi Chris,
Congratulations on your ongoing weight loss efforts. Continuity is always the key as you have proven. Just thought I’d share with you our online goal setting app - Lifetick. When launching it in May 2008, we focused on two things: rich, tight functionality and a stylish user interface. So far we’ve received great feedback on both fronts.
Clearly goal setting is a big part of losing weight. But we also thought you might be interested in our journal functionality as we allow users to track custom categories and then graph their progress over time. You could easily use it for tracking your weight loss, current weight, distance run, calorie intake, gym visits, basically whatever you like.
Hope it is some use to you and your readers.

Don’t let the dogs stop you from walking in your neighborhood. buy some pepper spray and walk with a walking stick, believe me they won’t come close to you a second time. And it won’t kill them.
