Kroger’s History
The Kroger Corporation was originally founded in the late 19th century by Bernard Kroger of Cincinnati, Ohio. It has since emerged as the larges retail grocery store in the nation and is generally considered to be the amongst the top three grocery chains nationwide in terms of volume. Originally, the Kroger Corporation was known as being the first grocery store nationwide to have a parking lot that surrounded the entire building instead of the traditional parking area sitting in front of the building.

Kroger has had to withdraw from some markets due to a wide range of economic factors. For example, Kroger once had a sizable presence in western Pennsylvania, but they were forced to withdraw from the region during the recession of the late 20th century. Similarly, the Kroger Corporation has removed its signature line of supermarkets from the Milwaukee region, but there is widespread speculation that Kroger will enter the area once again by purchasing the Roundy’s chain of grocery stores.
