Earning Money Working Out
The grass cutting season is finally here. Today was my first day helping my husband with his lawn service. He does the riding mower and I do the push mower. It’s one of our bigger jobs. It’s a small apartment complex along with 3 single dwellings. The isn’t a lot of grass with the complex but each of the homes have good size yards. Of course, two of them have pretty good inclines at the back of them. Trying to cut grass on the side of a hill…..IT’S HARD!!!!!
The first cut of the year always calls for clean up first. Plenty of sticks, bottles, cans, and plain old junk to pick up first. I know the bending up and down is good for me. It’s just that I’m so out of shape. I was surpised how much my arms and legs bothered me pushing the lawnmower. I’m taking notes of how I felt in my food journal so I can compare how I feel as the season progresses.
It’s now been four days since I have recommitted to my weight loss journey. I have been doing great. Last night after everyone had gone to bed, I was sitting there thinking….hmmm…..I could get into the fridge and they would never know. Yikes……what the heck kind of thought was that. It’s funny how I talk to myself in my head. Maybe I’m a basket case and don’t even know it. Oh well, if that is the case, I’m going to be that way only thinner. I told myself to get a bottle of water and forget the food.
My mind is set, I’m going to lose this weight and KEEP IT OFF this time. I’ve lost 100 pounds three different times. I didn’t use pills, drinks, or any weight loss program other than one I set up for myself. I called it the “Green Diet.” Believe it or not, I only ate green vegetables. I also use to walk the track near my home at night the last time I lost the weight. The other two times I lost 100 pounds, I was a letter carrier, so I got plenty of excercise delivering the mail.
Time for me to hit the shower. I am working in the gift shop at the hospital for a friend tonight. I hope I’m busy so the time will go by fast. I’ve had four good days in a row with my weight loss journey. If you haven’t started or had a bad day……just put it behind you and start anew. Do like I did, get family and friends involved for support. Once you tell them….you are going to feel a lot better. It’s really a confidence builder.

Just think of the calories you are burning mowing the lawn. I think the secret to losing weight and keeping it off. Is starting a diet and exercise plan that you can make a part of your life without too much change.
You mentioned you lost 100 pounds on the green diet, whilst that was fantastic once you reach your target on these type of diets and you return to your normal diet you will more than likely pile the weight back on and more.

I like that your journaling this, I’ll hope you keep posting your progress over the season it will be interesting to see how the body adapts in the next few weeks. I’ve been working out at nights and a couple weeks ago started walking in the mornings as well. It’s amazing how doing that little extra a 3 or 4 days a week really makes an impact in the long run.
I’m on the 100 lb journey myself and so far I’m 10 lbs down

Good luck! I always find the easiest way to control my eating is by really using the power of small-I take my diet one day at a time. Behaving for 24 hours is a task I can accomplish but thinking about losing a lot of weight can get so overwhelming it’s tempting to give up.

Justin,
I wish you the best…..10 pounds is GREAT!! I’ve lost five pounds this in the past week. I’m sure my body doesn’t know what to make of the new food intake.

CW,
You are right. I use to give up so easily when I’d have a bad day and it would take me forever to recommit. I hopefully will be able to brush it off and carry on if I halter.

Hey there, I think it’s amazing that you lost so much weight and not once but three times. As a fellow weight loss blogger I’m interested in what you think about posting pictures of ourselves throughout our journeys. Obviously if I am trying to lose weight I am not happy with myself, so I am having and inner struggle about posting pictures. My friends think I should, they say it will help motivate me more because I would want to shrink and be able to post pictures of me getting smaller. But I am horrified at the thought. Anyway, good luck on your weight loss.

Your blog is so inspirational! Those little things we do really add up. Wow, 100 pounds, twice and you’re still going–that is admirable! I think any of us who’ve struggled with weight know how hard it is to gain it all back.
Green diets are very healthy! Have you read “Eat to Live” by Dr. Fuhrman? Lots of good info in there for eating for optimal health. I also bought ‘The China Study’ because he references it in his book. It’s my goal to one day to eat that way. Anyway, he recommends a nutrient dense diet–1 pound of raw greens (the darker the better) and veggies, 1 pound of cooked greens, 4 fruits, with one-two servings of nuts, beans, or legumes a day.
I look forward to keeping up with your blog!

Great blog. I find that if I eliminate one “bad” food from my diet at a time (gradually), I am more successful. Going “cold turkey” is almost impossible. For instance, just take out “potato chips” for 3 weeks and leave everything else the same. You will be consuming far less calories just from eliminating that one food. Then add another “bad” food to the elimination list etc. etc.

Wow! That is a lot of weed eating. I too am a huge fan of using a weed eater. It is extremely good for your shoulders & arms. I spent about 4 hours with mine a couple of weeks ago weed eating my yard and 3 of my neighbors yards. Needless to say, when I was done I was super tired. My boyfriend was shocked that I did so much. It was a new weed eater & he hadn’t seen it yet, but when he did he was even more shocked because it is so heavy. That made me feel really good!! I am sure the calories were just melting away that day
