Diet Holiday Cookies…..I Wish

This Christmas Season has been flying by.  I finally got my last two packages in the mail today.  I gave a sigh of relief as I walked out the door at the post office.  Next year I think I’m going to give gift cards, postage has gotten so high.

I didn’t bake any Christmas cookies or candy this year.  This kept me from going to the cookie exchange held at the hospital every year.  I also did not attend  the holiday brunch the senior center put on yesterday.

All the cookies I like, are all fattening.  Since there aren’t a variety of “Diet” xmas cookies in any of my recipe books, I figured the best thing I could do right now is to avoid them.

Perhaps next year, I’ll have the ability to pass on the sweet holiday treats or be able to eat one and quit.   I just know this year, I’d  be eating them all and then feeling guilty afterwards.

I think it is important for each of us to be able to take an honest look at our weaknesses and draw up a plan to overcome them. Right now avoidance is what is working best for me this season.  I have not gained any weight during the holiday season.  That is a plus.  In fact, I must have been carrying water weight when I thought I had gained when my husband had surgery.  I’ve lost that three pounds plus another three after he got home.

I know I’m not breaking any records with my weight loss.  I just keep reminding myelf of the story of the turtle and the hare.  Steady as she goes…..I’m going to reach my goal!!!!!!!!

Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!!!!!!

I really believe your approach is the correct one. It’s no use surrounding ourselves with temptation and then feeling defeated when we succumb. Well done!

I know how you feel, and making strategies for overcoming weaknesses is a great idea. I like to keep my house free of any fattening foods. This way even if I have an urge to eat poorly, I don’t. If I had those foods in my house there are just times there would be no way for me to resist!

Christmas does make you gain unwanted weight..

It is very tough not to give in to these temptations…especially during holidays…
You are doing a good job staying away from them…and encouraging all to do likewise….

What a great post, and I admire your good decision-making! Yes, as a fitness expert, I agree…if you can’t resist ‘em, just literally don’t even go there.

It’s really rough this time of year to keep your weight loss program going–so it’s OK to give yourself permission to just stay on a plateau for a few weeks. Hey, at least it’s better than gaining!

Activity is the key–get out there, get moving, and don’t stop. Think anti-lazy. Look for the farthest-away parking spot.

And no, I hate diet cookies, too, so I just try to duck the massive shower of baked goods, cookies and fat-filled drinks like eggnog that prevail this time of year.

Good luck, and don’t wait until January 2nd to get your fitness program in high gear!

    Hi,
First time commenter here. Its very hard to resist temptation (especially if they’re Christmas cookies)
I really enjoy reading your posts, is it ok if I add you to my bloggroll?

    Thanks,

    Hello There,

I agreed with the above article and it is certainly a healthy way to live but don’t you think that is what Christmas is all about greeting and delicious food. Should be restrict ourselve on these days as well?

  11. Chris Says:

    Barb,

It’s all about doing things in moderation. I’m weak when it comes to those things so prefer to eliminate them. One can do plenty of greeting without eating during the holiday season. I want to prevent as much temptation as I can. At least this year. Maybe next year I’ll be better.

Instead of eating “diet” versions of sweets I think it’s better to just occassionally indulge in the real thing. I honestly thing that diet versions of sweets are a huge problem because they cause a “trigger” to desire more sweets.

I don’t see much discussion of low carb diets, which from what I read has real health benefits like reducing insulin resistance and blood pressure, as well as weight. There are a number of low carb programs that readers could find beneficial.
