Getting back on Track with My Weight Loss

While I was away for the 2 1/2 weeks, I didn't make good food choices and didn't drink nearly enough water. While my son was in the hospital, he slept a lot so I went to the cafeteria and ate for something to do. I know I've sabatoged my weight loss but I started back on track yesterday. I drank plenty of water and walked over 14,000 steps. I'm going to wait a week before I weigh myself.

We are back to our grass cutting business....playing catch-up right now. It's so hot and humid. We can't start cutting early in the morning because the grass is so wet which makes it clump. Since I've started helping my husband with his lawn service, I notice how people take care of their lawns and the landscaping. It's funny how or focus changes as we change our daily patterns in life.

I wish my focus on this weight loss journey was more intense...then it wouldn't be such a struggle.

Time to go cut some grass....I'm grabbing my Propel water and my pedometer...ready to sweat the the sound of the lawnmower. It's interesting to know that an 8 ounce glass of milk has the same amount of calcium as a 700 ml bottle of propel with calcium. Propel offers a great selections of waters.

Never losing faith/ the power of prayer

I'd like to thank everyone for their prayers. Prayers are so powerful. I know they have helped him. My son is out of the hospital and recovering. He's moved from the west coast to the east coast to live with my youngest son. I'm hoping it works out. It's been many years since they have lived under the same roof.

My oldest son has a very fast metabolism and has been thin all his life. He needs to gain some weight. My youngest son, on the other hand, has gone up and down like a yoyo with his weight. Right now he is trying to lose some weight. It should be interesting to see their eating patterns.

Up and down like a yoyo

I was feeling so good after my mom's doctor appointment today. The phone rang.....my oldest son is in intensive care way out in Northern Ca. Although the nurses can't say anything about the condition of the patient, she asked if I was coming out. I got right on the phone and made the first reservation I could.

My plane leaves in 7 hours. Of course, I can't sleep. Feeling so helpless. I'm hoping I don't lose it when I see him. He has always been so thin all his life. I'm afraid I'm going to just see a skeleton when I walk in his room. He hasn't been home in 4 years. I'm just not sure what to expect.

I'd appreciate it if any of the readers would say some prayers for James.

Thanks!!!

Good News Today about Mom

I took my mom to the doctor's today. He is monitoring her leukemia. I was afraid she had lost weight. I was happy to see she has gained 8 pounds in the past 6 months. I did some research on here in regards to her type leukemia. I read where green tea helped people with CLL. I started having her talk green tea pills since I couldn't get her to drink any.

When we saw the doctor, her white count has improved. All areas they tested were better. I was so happy to hear that.

Mom's not so thrilled about gaining the weight. She's only a size 12 now. She's gaining and I'm losing....what a combination. I don't have to take her back again for another 6 months.

I don't know if those green tea pills are helping...but I'm going to make sure she keeps taking them. Something is helping.

Do you want to lose weight? One day special on EBAY

I like to check out Ebay and see what type of products are being offered in weight loss area. There are only 9 hours left to bid on this ring. You can get all your wishes granted for one day. woo hoo!! I can't believe the bids on it already have it over $80.00. UPDATE: HOLY COW.....THE RING WENT FOR $326.00.

I don't believe in that type of stuff. Obviously, there are many that do. Each week I check it out, there are people buying all types of "magical" stuff. What can I say....each to their own. Variety is the spice of life as they say.

Fun Day at the River

I went fishing with my cousin yesterday in the Illinois River. We stopped at WalMart and picked up some worms. They are half the price of the bait shop. It was the first time I have used the fishing pole my dad bought me in 40 years. Holding that pole sure brought back lots of memories. The reel still worked great. Guess it just shows how well things use to be made.

I know I didn't burn many calories yesterday but it was so much fun. I caught 5 fish. None of them were big enough to keep(I thought the bass was). I had it on a stringer. When my husband joined us later in the afternoon, he said it wasn't big enough. Since he is the one that cleans them, I said ok and had him toss it back in.

There were a lot of boaters out yesterday. Many of them waving as they passed us. We always gave a big wave back. I was wishing I had a whole stringer of fish to hold up. Perhaps next time.

My husband has to work all day so I need to get busy and make him a lunch. I'm waiting until mom gets up and I'll have her go with me to take it to him. Think I'll take her shopping after that. I can really burn off calories when we have one of our power trips.

I've taken pork chops out for supper and have to decide how I'm going to fix them. I've got two low-fat cookbooks with lots of good and easy recipes. I'm going to see what I can find in them. I bought these cookbooks at Amazon.com very reasonable.

Working up a sweat while dropping weight

We just stopped home after completing our second lawn cutting today. I've gotten over 12,000 steps in already. Hubby has decided to eat lunch now. I'm just having my glass of ice tea. I'm not hungry. Eating just to be eating.....I'm trying to get away from that. I'm still pretty upbeat about the weight loss I recorded yesterday. I like these kind of days when I can stay on track.

It's getting hot. I'll be sweating while cutting those bushes today.

Our third job today is cutting down these huge bushes (about 7/8 ft tall) along with the darn trees that have grown inbetween them. I'm not looking forward to this job. This should be great for the muscle building though. I am keeping that in mind.

I can't wait to enter my hours worked on ability.org. That site shows amount of calories burned for different types of activities.

Yikes, husband is done eating and ready to hit the road. I've got my pedometer, my ice tea and my purse...off I go. (Can't go anywhere without my purse.)

Volunteering helped with my weight loss yesterday

I went to do my volunteer work for the hospital yesterday. It is an off site location in which we serve low income families. They have various ways in which they can earn points. With these points, they can purchase various household items as well as strollers, walkers, and other baby items. It's fun working with these young moms.

We were getting low on some supplies. After the office closed, I went shopping. I had three full carts the first trip. I had to take it all back to the office and unload, price, and put up everything. The second trip, I had four carts. I had to do the same with that stuff.

Needless to say, the three hours of volunteering turned into ten hours. Our office is open from 11 until 2. I didn't have breakfast and of course, didn't have lunch. I finally ate supper at 8:30 pm. I went to Wendy's and had a small chili and a baked potato and a glass of water.

I know you aren't suppose to go all day like that but I must say, I wasn't hungry. I did drink plenty of water through out the day. When I'm busy, I forget about eating. I need to do more of this to keep my weight loss on a downward spiral. The other benefit, I slept like a log last night.

I got on the scale..I'm down 4 lbs since my last weigh in. YIPPEEEEE

Burning over 369 calories an hour

I was always curious as to how many calories a person burns while mowing grass. Since I've started helping my husband with his lawn business this year, it's become my major mode of exercise. According to the Journal of the American College of Sports Medicine, a 180 pound man burns 369 calories per hour using a power mower.

I weight more than that but figured it gave me a ball park figure. Then..what luck....I stumbled across a website called ability.org. What a great site. You can put in your weight...the length of time you are doing the activity, and it shows you how many calories you will burn. It shows such things as, cutting wood, cutting grass with a push and power lawnmower, playing with kids, and gardening. There are a few more activities I haven't shared.

It's going to be fun using this site when I get home every evening to see what I've burned off. It's fun making my weight loss like a game. There's nothing like trying to beat yourself. That's like atheletes do...always trying to improve their time at their various sports.
